Application Process

Applications for the Emerge Nevada Class of 2023 are now closed!

Please read through all of the information below in its entirety. It is important to have a complete understanding of the application process and training program before you apply.

Applications for the Class of 2023 are now closed.

Who Should Apply?

Emerge Nevada seeks Democratic women who are committed to effective political leadership, are interested in or plan to run for elected office, and who have:

  • Evidence of political leadership experience or potential, and meaningful involvement in workplace or community;
  • Plan to run for office within the next 5 years;
  • Ability and desire to build effective networks;
  • Ability to articulate a personal political vision;
  • Commitment to full participation and attendance requirements of the training.
  • Applicants must be Democrats who reside in the state of Nevada and identify as women.

Emerge Nevada will select 20-25 women from across the state who meet the above criteria and who we believe to have the potential to be political leaders.

Emerge embraces diversity and encourages applications from all women regardless of age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, socio-economic status or physical ability.  Our mission to build the bench of Democratic women ready to run for office acknowledges both systemic and historic barriers to running for office as well as the barriers women impose on themselves.

Applications for the Emerge Nevada Class of 2023 are now closed.

Online applications are being evaluated by a selection committee and qualified applicants will be invited to an in-person interview. Invitations to join the 2023 class will be extended in January 2023.

Time Commitment

The success of the Emerge Nevada program depends upon commitment to the program’s entire schedule by each participant.  Over the six months, approximately 70 program hours are scheduled. Some time outside of regularly scheduled training will be necessary for homework, volunteer work and training preparation. While emergencies sometimes arise, attendance at the first and last day of training is mandatory and absence for any reason will result in a deferral to the following year.

The 2023 Emerge Nevada Signature Training Program will be a hybrid model with primarily virtual training and 2 in-person sessions.

2023 Training Dates

The 2023 cohort begins in January 2023.

Virtual training sessions will be conducted via Zoom and require a relatively quiet space with internet and computer access, as we do strongly encourage participation via video. If you have limited access to any of these items, we will work with you to help ensure you can successfully participate. All virtual training sessions include adequate breaks, and we are continuously learning and adopting best practices for virtual training to ensure each training session is effective and engaging.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required and must be submitted along with a completed application.

Payment can be made here

Interviews

Emerge Nevada will review completed online applications and select finalists for virtual interviews. Finalists will be invited to attend an interview with the selection committee beginning in September by Zoom video conference.

Class of 2023 interview dates and times will be scheduled on an individual basis with each applicant.

Tuition

Participation in the Emerge Nevada program requires tuition of $500. There is another obligation to be raised through each program member’s fundraising efforts for the program.

Financial need should not be a barrier to applying to the program. Financial assistance may be discussed after admission to the program.

The fundraising requirement is an essential part of the Emerge Nevada curriculum and will be facilitated through learning this section in class and with the help of class materials.

The six-month program takes place primarily virtually one to two weekends each month. In 2023, the Emerge Nevada class will meet in person on two occasions–once in Northern Nevada and once in Southern Nevada.
