Emerge Nevada Board of Directors


Emerge Nevada is changing the face of Nevada politics by identifying, training, mentoring, and inspiring women leaders from diverse backgrounds to pursue elected office. Our cohort-based, opportunity-responsive training programs provide aspiring women leaders with cutting-edge training to run for elected office and challenge the dominant paradigm in our political system. Our program alumnae form a strong, supportive network of women in politics, which includes access to the national Emerge alumnae sisterhood and the Emerge Nevada Board of Directors. For more than a decade, Emerge Nevada has actively worked toward building a bench of candidates ready to make a difference and bring gender equality to all levels of government. As a representative of Emerge Nevada, Directors are part of a collective force that views women as the nexus point in the mission of equity, justice, and shared opportunity.

We do this by:

  • Recruiting program applicants from diverse personal and professional backgrounds and demographics
  • Balancing tested & proven campaign training with specialized curriculum designed to unlock the unique genius women candidates possess
  • Removing cost barriers by providing scholarships and flexible payment arrangements
  • Fostering authentic, meaningful connections between program members and mentors
  • Providing continuing education opportunities and hosting networking events
  • Encouraging joy in public service and celebrating victories on the campaign trail & in elected office

Get Involved!

Emerge Nevada is filling vacancies on our Board of Directors for the 2020-2022 term. The Board supports the work of Emerge Nevada by providing vision, leadership, sound governance and actively helps secure the resources needed to advance the affiliate’s mission. While day-to-day operations are led by Emerge Nevada’s Executive Director, the Board – ED relationship is a partnership, and meaningful involvement of at least 4 hours per month from Directors is both critical and expected.

We are seeking Board Members who are:

  • Integrity – honest and uncompromising adherence to high ethical standards
  • Accountable – reliably fulfills commitments and achieves goals
  • Influential – ability to inspire and persuade others

  • Flexible – willing to roll with the punches and find humor in most situations

Specific board member responsibilities include:

  • Establishing goals and performance metrics to evaluate outcomes and assess impact and effectiveness
  • Chairing or co-chairing one committee
  • Approving Emerge Nevada’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Making a personal contribution to the organization at a level that is personally meaningful, fulfilling a write-or-raise fundraising commitment and supporting the execution of a fundraising plan ensuring the long-range financial sustainability of the affiliate
  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director
  • Representing Emerge Nevada to stakeholders and funders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Assisting the Executive Director and Recruitment, Nomination and Selection Committee in identifying and recruiting future board members
  • Upholding Emerge Nevada’s commitment to ensuring the board, staff, and program membership reflects the broader constituency composition of the state

Term of Office & Participation

  • Board members are elected to serve renewable 2 year terms of office. Officer positions are elected in staggered terms. The Board will elect a President and Treasurer in 2020.
  • Board meetings will be held every other month and committee meetings will be held between Board meetings.

Emerge Nevada is currently adhering to the CDC’s guidance on social distancing. All Board business including interviewing applicants, will be conducted electronically until further notice

Emerge Nevada is a comprehensive state-wide candidate recruitment, training, and mentorship program for aspiring women leaders who want to run for elected office and change the face of power, politics, and leadership in this state. Emerge Nevada’s mission is to recruit, train, and empower Democratic women to run for office at every level of government.

All candidates must complete this application and submit a current resume and brief statement of interest.

The Recruitment, Nominating, and Selection Committee reviews each candidate’s application, schedules and conducts interviews with applicants. Upon completion of interviews, the Recruitment, Nominating, and Selection Committee put forward a slate of applicants for a vote of the Board of Directors.

The Board will elect new members at the Board of Directors meeting on June 22nd, 2020. Applicants who are elected will be notified and receive orientation no later than July 30th.
