May 2022 Newsletter: Primary Candidates Edition

We cannot believe that there are only four weeks until Primary Election Day!

During this busy time, whether you’re a candidate, voter, super volunteer, or working on campaigns,

please remember to take time for yourselves! We cannot pour from an empty cup.

Especially in light of the SCOTUS leak and the probable overturning of Roe v. Wade, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible women in our network. Know that you are important, seen, and valued.  At Emerge Nevada, we are committed, now more than ever, to supporting Democratic women up and down the ballot to fight back against this attack on women’s reproductive healthcare.

Emerge President A’shanti Gholar released a statement, which you can read here.

After the leak, our Emerge Chats team pivoted to a session on the importance of community involvement and were joined by Board Member Briana Escamilla of Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada. To learn more about how this decision impacts Nevada, watch here.

We are exactly four weeks away from voting, so it is time to make your plan to vote and help your family, friends, and neighbors do the same! Please share the above voting graphic on your social media channels to inform folks in your network about their options to participate in this critical primary election.

To ensure everyone has the most up-to-date information possible, we have invited our Class of 2019 Alumna and All Voting is Local Executive Director Kerry Durmick (in her personal capacity) to join us on Emerge Chats Tuesday, May 24th at 1:00 pm to answer your questions about how to participate and make sure your voter registration is up to date. Join us on Facebook live here!

ALSO: Here are some things you can do right now to prepare:

1. Check to make sure your voter registration is up to date.

2. Find your most convenient ballot drop-off or in-person polling location.

3. Watch this quick informational video from the Nevada Independent.

4. Review additional voting resources and links from Vote Nevada

We have been asked by the community, stakeholders, and partner organizations which women on the Primary ballots are Emerge Alumnae. They ask us this question every election year knowing that Emerge Nevada graduates are prepared and experienced community leaders who they want to help elect. Here is our list of primary candidates with links to their campaign pages so you can learn more about the dynamic Emerge Nevada Alumnae running. Follow them on social media, volunteer with them, and please contribute to their campaign efforts.

As many women in our network are running for office or working on campaigns this midterm year, it is important that we are intentional about setting time aside for ourselves to rest and reset. To support our self-care routines, we offer this section each month with content geared toward supporting your mental and emotional health.

In April, Emerge Nevada Class of 2020 graduate and Board of Directors Communications Committee Co-Chair Britton Griffith joined the CAT Workshop and presented to the Alumnae on the importance of being a centered candidate who stays true to your values and moral compass. Britton shared that, “it’s important to have informal navigators and advisors who … help you stay grounded. Whether it be family, friends, your kitchen cabinet, or your Emerge sisters, make sure you are surrounded by people in your corner and reach out to them often, or whenever you need to strategize, a bit of reassurance, or support! Emerge Nevada and our network will always be here for you.”

With the Class of 2022 graduating in June and twenty candidates running in the June primary, many Emerge alumnae and supporters are reaching out to ask how they can best support our organization and the incredible women who have stepped up to run and serve their communities. The tuition for our Signature Training covers only a portion of our overall programming costs, and we depend on supporters like you to fill the gap so we can continue our work to identify and recruit women of the New American Majority.

We are now less than 30 days away from the primary for our 2022 midterms, a consequential election for Nevada, so we need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you to give a $25 monthly contribution to support the women in the Class of 2022? This will help ensure our long-term sustainability and success, so women have their voices heard in every room where decisions are made about them, their families, and their communities. Thank you for your generosity!
