Emerge Chats – We’re back, and better than ever!

After a brief summer hiatus, our Host, Briton Griffith, burst back onto our Live Stream in a special segment: 100 Days Left with Nevada State Senate Majority Leader Nicole CannizzaroIf you missed it, you can watch here!

This program was started as part of our 3-year Strategic Plan. We launched the Emerge Chats series as an opportunity to amplify the needs of our communities and the great work and leadership of all the alums in our network.

Primary Election Candidates Win Outright

Thank you to all of the incredible women who ran across Nevada – from school boards and city councils to justice courts and congress, our women should be proud of the races they ran. We are excited to report that nearly 70% of our primary candidates were in the top two of their race and move on to the general election. Two outright winners EMERGED: Nadia Wood, Candidate for Las Vegas Justice Court Department 16, and Beth Smith, Candidate for Washoe County School Board Trustee District D, both won in the primary election!

Self Care is Important

As many in our network are running for office or working on campaigns this midterm year, it is important, now more than ever, that we keep our health and well-being top of mind. To elevate and support your self-care routines, each month, we will have a section geared toward supporting your mental and emotional health!

If you have suggestions for future newsletters, please reach out to us!

For now, let’s salute the end of summer, and stay hydrated during this monsoon season with an Emerge twist! Celebrate Emerge Nevada’s primary successes, the graduation of the Class of 2022, and welcome in the general election work ahead with a toast. Make this end of summer drink recipe (which will be our signature teal color) and send us a picture along with a self-care tip to communications@emergenv.org

Roe v. Wade Decision – Nominate a Woman

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court of the United States has relegated women to second-class citizenry. Thank you to all of you who have donated to the Wild West Fund, donated to Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada, supported Naral Pro-Choice Nevada and attended rallies to show our leaders we will not stand idly by while our rights are stripped from us. Right after the SCOTUS leak, we went live with Emerge Nevada Board Member Briana Escamilla of Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada to talk about what this means for Nevada and our country. Watch here!

Emerge Nevada, friends and allies will not be silent and will continue to advocate for women’s reproductive healthcare and support those up and down the ballot who will protect our rights. Many of you have reached out and asked how we can safeguard our rights and ensure our bodily autonomy, and the answer is to continue getting Democratic women elected to office. We are asking YOU to run for school board to fight for comprehensive sex education. We are asking YOU to run for city councils and county commissions to set up safe-havens and direct funding. We are asking YOU to run for District Attorney and declare you won’t prosecute people who seek or provide abortions. We are asking YOU to run for the state legislature to secure and codify our rights.

Applications for our Signature Candidate Training Program open in September. You can help elect women across Nevada by nominating a woman who should run today!

Briana Escamilla also shared these helpful resources:
Donate to the Wild West Access Fund.
Find an abortion provider.

Class of 2022 Graduation

“We are thrilled to announce the NEWEST Emerge Nevada Alums – Congratulations to the Class of 2022! We cannot wait for all you will accomplish, and to support you every step of the way!”

– Emerge Nevada Executive Director, Danna Lovell

Class Speaker Mishon Montgomery reminded us:

“We are enough. We are qualified. We are powerful. WE ARE EMERGE!” After hyping up the crowd, Emerge Nevada Alums who serve in the assembly presented MSgt Mishon Montgomery with a Proclamation celebrating her decorated career, education, and 20+ years of service in the U.S. Air Force!

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR MISSION:

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to ensuring women are represented up and down the ballot in Nevada. Your support helps us provide the resources and high-quality training needed to elect women to represent us state-wide and locally.

With recruitment for the Class of 2023 in full swing and a full slate of candidates running in the General Election, many Emerge alumnae and supporters are reaching out to ask how they can best support our 2022 candidates, many of whom are running for the first time, and our future classes. The tuition for our Signature Training covers only a portion of our overall programming costs, and we depend on supporters like you to fill the gap so we can continue our work to identify and recruit women of the New American Majority.

With women’s reproductive healthcare on the ballot, this is a consequential election for Nevada, and we need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you to give a $25 monthly contribution to support the women in the Class of 2023? This will help ensure our long-term sustainability and success, so women have their voices heard in every room where decisions are made about them, their families, and their communities.

Thank you for your generosity!
